Mercedes-Benz India is all set to launch the new Mercedes-Benz G 580 and EQS 450 in the Indian market tomorrow. The EQS 450 is essentially the 5-seater version of the EQS 580 and will feature the same 122kWh battery pack. This is the largest cell capacity for any passenger EV in the country and this battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 31 minutes using a 200kW DC charger.

The new G 580, which is essentially electrified G-Class will get EQ Technology. It have a 116kWh battery pack paired with four electric motors – one for each wheel. Combined, they produce a total of 587PS and a massive 1,164Nm of torque. It has claimed 473km of range (WLTP) and can sprint from 0-100 kph within 5 seconds. A standout feature of the EQG is its G-Turn capability, enabling the vehicle to perform a full 720-degree rotation while remaining stationary.

The G 580 retains much of the iconic G-Class design while introducing updates tailored for an EV. The traditional front grille has been replaced with a closed-off panel, which can feature optional illuminated accents. Other subtle changes include redesigned bumpers, and at the rear, buyers have the option to swap the classic spare wheel for a square storage box, enhancing practicality. Additionally, the model features a roof-mounted spoiler.
The interior closely resembles that of the ICE G-Class, with dual 12.3-inch digital screens serving as the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Exclusive to the EV version, the displays include EQ-specific graphics, while the traditional locking differential switches have been replaced with controls for a “tank turn” function and low-range mode activation.

In terms of design, the EQS 480 will have same design and features a blanked-off black panel grille that extends into the lower section of the front bumper. Italso gets connected LED headlamps that run across the car’s width. At the rear, it gets full-width LED tail lamps and the rear profile looks very similar to the Maybach EQS with minor changes.

The Mercedes EQS 450 SUV is tailored for buyers who prioritize additional cabin space, particularly those who prefer being chauffeur-driven. Moving inside, it’s expected to get a Mercedes Hyperscreen setup comprising a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment with a 12.3-inch front passenger screen. Other expected features include dual 11.6-inch rear entertainment screens, soft-close doors, puddle lamps, illuminated running boards, a 15-speaker Burmester sound system, five-zone climate control, Level 2 ADAS, 9 Airbags and much more.

The battery pack paired with dual electric motors which put out a combined 544hp of power and 858Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via the 4Matic AWD system and the company claimed the EV SUV can sprint from 0-100kph in 4.7 seconds. The 7-seat EQS 580 has an ARAI-certified range of 809km on a single charge and the new 5-seat variant with lesser weight might have more range.
