Abu Dhabi Knight Riders head coach Dwayne Bravo believes the ILT20 is playing a crucial role in the growth of UAE cricket, providing local players with invaluable experience and confidence.
“We talk about the bigger picture. Of course, this tournament is a lot about the development of cricket in the UAE as well,” Bravo stated, emphasising the long-term benefits of ILT20 for emerging talent.

Highlighting the performances of UAE players Ibrar Ahmad and Alishan Sharafu, Bravo remarked, “I think a tournament like this will only make UAE cricket stronger. These guys will get more experience, they’ll learn a lot more, and they’ll gain confidence. By extension, the national team will become a better side.”
Bravo drew comparisons with global T20 leagues, citing how the IPL has transformed Indian cricket and how Australia’s Big Bash League has strengthened their domestic structure. “Domestic competitions help local players, and by extension, the national team benefits,” he added.
He also spoke about the mental side of the game, recalling a moment with Ibrar Ahmad in the dressing room. “Ibrar had his head down after the game, and I gave him a hug, lifted his chin up – these things happen. You could see he felt as though he let the team down, but it’s a team sport. As long as I’m around, these guys will be protected and shown love.”
Bravo, a T20 legend transitioning into coaching, expressed his enthusiasm for the role. “I’m enjoying the stint. Obviously, the last few games didn’t go our way, but we’ve played some good cricket. My responsibility, along with my staff, is to keep encouraging the guys, keep them believing, and ensure they keep learning.”
Sharjah Warriorz spinner Ashton Agar echoed Bravo’s sentiments about ILT20’s appeal, calling it a premier tournament that every player wants to be part of. “Having experienced a few games, I want to come every year. The standard is really high, with so many international players competing. You want to play against the best, and they are all here.”
In the match, Sharjah Warriorz secured a vital four-wicket victory over Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, led by Johnson Charles’ 65 and key bowling performances from Adam Zampa and Adam Milne. The win propelled them from sixth to third place, significantly boosting their playoff hopes.
