Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao has criticised blockchain company 5ireChain for using a selfie with him in a misleading manner on social media platform X (earlier Twitter). According to a report by Dimsum Daily, the Dubai-based software development company shared a photo of Zhao and its Indian founder and CEO Pratik Gauri on X with the caption “What’s cooking?” accompanied by a handshake emoji, hinting at a potential collaboration. However, the tweet was later deleted from X after it was flagged by the Binance CEO. In a separate post on X, CZ clarified that the selfie was taken at a chance encounter and no discussion or agreement about any collaboration between the companies had taken place. He also expressed his disapproval of the attempt to leverage the image for promotional purposes. Zhao noted that while sharing selfies with admired individuals is common, he would never endorse a project without obtaining explicit permission.

Responding to this post (which has since been deleted), Zhao wrote: This is exactly how NOT to use a selfie with me. Nothing is cooking. Didn’t even have a chat. Just a selfie at an event. 😂
Later on, another X user replied to Zhao’s tweet and wrote: “Selfie with CZ should not be used as promotion. Instead focus on building! @cz_binance”
Replying to this, Zhao said: “You should be alarmed if a person/project uses a selfie with someone else as promotional material. 😂Posting selfies when I meet someone I like/admire is normal. But I would never use that to promote my project, unless with explicit permission.”
