The Maruti Suzuki Swift, alongside a host of lightweight hatchbacks from the brand, has long been facing criticism over its structural strength. However, things have changed for good since last year when the new Dzire bagged an impressive 5-star rating from Global NCAP. Now, its sibling, the Swift, met a crash test by fate. In a video that has been going viral on social media, we see a latest generation Swift enduring a serious accident involving an overturned truck loaded with bricks.
Maruti Suzuki under heavy stones: What we saw in the video
In the video, the Swift is seen parked next to a wall. It appears that a heavily loaded truck tipped over, sending a pile of heavy stones crashing onto the car.
The weight of the bricks and the truck’s impact managed to damage both the windshields but the impact on the roof and the bonnet is rather minimal. Although there is visible damage to its upper structure, the car’s body panels remain largely intact. A nearby Hero HF Deluxe motorcycle also suffered damage in the incident.
Maruti Suzuki Swift: Safety ratings available?
While Maruti Suzuki has not yet sent the new Swift for Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP crash tests, its sibling, the new-gen Dzire, which shares the same Heartect platform, recently secured a 5-star safety rating under the Global NCAP. The Dzire scored 31.24 out of 34 points for adult occupant protection and 39.20 out of 42 points for child occupant safety. While there are no safety ratings available for the new Swift, the video suggests that the structural integrity of the hatchback has been improved significantly as compared to previous-gen models.
