Shahid Kapoor who made his debut with ‘Ishq Vishq’ has been in the industry for around 21 years now. The actor has seen his share of hits and misses and is now gearing up for the release of his film ‘Deva’. In a recent interview, Shahid has opened up on his dull phase where he had back-to-back flops, until a movie like ‘Vivah‘ happened.
This film which sees Shahid along with Amrita Rao, directed by Sooraj Barjatya continues to be loved and remembered over the years. The actor revealed in an interview as to how Sooraj Barjatya trusted him despite his flops. “I remember when I did Vivah, I had three flops in one month. I remember we shot Vivah for 8-9 days when my films flopped and I went and told Sooraj Barjatya that he can replace me if he wants. Why would anyone want to work with me because I had given three flops in a month. And one of the flops was with Sanjay Dutt, other was with Ajay Devgn and another was with Akshay Kumar – all were big stars and I thought I only must have some bad luck,” said Shahid in an interview with Bollywood Hungama.
He added, “But Sooraj ji told me, ‘If you know what to do in front of the camera, just do that and leave the rest to me’ and Vivah was my biggest hit at that time. He backed me and he had faith in me at that time. So that will always be my best memory of Sooraj Barjatya and Vivah.”
Vivah had released in 2006 and became one of the biggest hits that year. The songs and scenes of the film continued to be remembered till date, some of which is also now a part of the meme culture. For instance, Amrita Rao’s ‘jal lijiye’ scene.
Meanwhile, Shahid’s next ‘Deva’ is set to release in cinemas on January 31.
